Clothes look better on the body when they fit properly, and we cannot always get that with store bought garments. The process of achieving this is starting with the right block that has been customised to fit the body. A block is a patternmaking template. It is not a finished sewing pattern. For newcomers to pattern drafting block development you will start with a basic block, this could be skirt, trouser or tee shirt. As skills and confidence in crease more complex block development could include bodice block with set in sleeves, dress block or an overgarment/jacket block. More complex blocks may take more than one workshop to complete.
Growing your patternmaking skills and techniques will allow you to create accurate sewing patterns for garments you have designed and fitting garments onto your body. This could be the beginning of a fashion career or a personal goal to create your own bespoke wardrobe.
You will need to purchase sewing supplies and materials, prices could range between $50 – $100+ depending on what you already have.
